Gananoque has a population of approximately 5500 people and Linklater Public School is proud to service the children of this small town in the heart of the 1000 islands.
Linklater School is approximately 125 years old and we are proud of its history and its character, including both the beautiful building and the people who choose to come here and work here. A lot of people put their trust and faith in us, as we care for their children, and it is a huge and important responsibility.
If you were to spend a few days in our school there are a few things that would stand out to you. Our healthy food program, our emphasis on physical fitness, and our dedication to student wellness are all high priorities. We have a breakfast club that is second to none or as a visiting nutritionist stated “it is the gold star of Breakfast Programs.” This program operates with the help of over 50 community volunteers who fundraise, and provide our students with large fruit baskets throughout the school, full hot breakfasts each day for any and all and healthy lunches made up every day for students who need one.
We also have incentive fitness clubs where approx. 90 percent of our students exercise during the 40 minute recess breaks. This means that in the addition to Quality Daily Physical Education (QDPE) students are often doing an extra 80 to 120 minutes of exercise a day. Our fitness clubs run steady until our Marathon Club begins in the spring and if you drive by Linklater at recess you will see upwards of 200 students and staff running laps outside to complete one, two or even three marathons. Our final lap is run in conjunction with a community BBQ, with over 500 parents and community members watching and cheering us on.
As a staff we are committed to bringing the highest quality educational programming to our students and our constantly rising EQAO results are an indication that we are succeeding. We are making a difference.
Linklater Public School is a special place, where we welcome and care for the children of Gananoque, where we are committed to our families.
Linklater is “Your Community School!”
